Tips when Visiting the Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains is a wonderful place to experience the raw beauty of the Australian bush. There's plenty to see and do and lots of day tours to help you pack everything in. There are however a few important things you should know before taking your trip. Here we outline some useful tips to consider before going bush in the Blue Mountains:

Stay safe

There are heaps of great marked walking tracks that take you deep into the bush. Most of these walks have mobile phone reception too. But if you do happen to wander off onto an unmarked track, you should proceed with caution. So many locals and visiting tourists have been lost for days in the Blue Mountains. It's easy to get disorientated in the bush and get lost. Much of the terrain offers no reception so if you get lost, it would be hard for you to call for help. Stay safe by making sure that you know the route you are trekking and let someone know the exact path you will be taking, if you are not sticking to marked trails.

Wear appropriate clothing and footwear

The weather can vary dramatically from what you will experience in the heart of Sydney. It can be 10 degrees colder than in the city and even colder than that at night. This is why it is so important that no matter where you start your journey from to the Blue Mountains, you make sure you bring warm clothing. It may be warm where you are staying near the city, but as you head towards the mountains you will be able to feel the temperature change.

Appropriate footwear is also very important to enjoy your day. There's nothing worse than finding half way through a bush walk your shoes have given you blisters and you're a few kilometres back to the bus or car. Make sure you put comfort first when choosing what to wear.

Important things to have in the backpack

There are a few things you should take with you to the mountains. This includes things like:

  • Sunscreen- just because it's cold doesn't mean you can't get sun burnt
  • A hat
  • Lots of water-the last thing you want is to dehydrate
  • Some snacks

Forward planning

It's important that you think ahead before taking your trip to the Blue Mountains. You need to consider whether or not you want to go on a Blue Mountains tour, or if you will be exploring the area on your own. If you decide to do it on your own, make sure you have a map and all of the visitor information you need on hand. A tour is a great option, especially if you are visiting Sydney. It will mean that you won't miss out on seeing any of the most popular sights of the region too.

The Blue Mountains are a must see marvel. I hope our list of tips has given you some useful ideas to ensure that your trip to the region will be a wonderfully enjoyable experience.
