School Holiday Activities in Melbourne

The school holidays can really test the child parent relationship. Throw in a few rainy days with nothing planned and you could be left pulling your hair out. Melbourne has some wonderful activities you and your children can enjoy together during the school holidays. From day tours to panning for gold we've got some great ideas for the next school break:

Visit the Open Range Zoo

Located in Werribee, Victoria's Open Range Zoo is like no other zoo experience. The zoo which is home to African animals only, gives visitors the chance to be driven around the zoo and experience first hand the way that the animals interact with one other. Taking the Volcanic Plains walking trail is a great way to spend an afternoon, taking in the sights of the zoo.

A day at the Melbourne Aquarium

Located opposite the Crown Casino on the Yarra River the Melbourne Aquarium is a great place for taking your little ones during the school break. The aquarium has a great range of sharks, fish and other marine life living in its aquariums and oceanarium. Extending into the Yarra Valley, the Aquarium stands 2 stories high and is 1 story below ground level, offering visitors plenty to see and do.

Take a trip to Sovereign Hill

Why not take the kids for a day trip to Sovereign Hill at Ballarat? You can spend the day panning for gold in the creek, browsing the shops and touring the gold mine. This educational Gold Rush theme park has something to offer both kids and adults and a great way to spend a day during the school holidays.

A day trip to Phillip Island

Phillip Island has a number of great activities available that the whole family can enjoy! One of the greatest experiences you can have on the island is to witness the nightly penguin parade. Phillip Island is home to one of the biggest Little penguin colonies in the world. In the evening they emerge from the water to enter their burrows in the sand. No Phillip Island tour is complete without witnessing this amazing sight.
