5 Adventure Activities in the Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains is such a beautiful place to visit. For families, couples and adventure thrill seekers alike. So after you've taken a wonderful scenic Blue mountains tour and want to get the blood pumping, why not try on some of these activities for size:

Rock climbing

It has to be said, that there possibly couldn't be a better place to go rock climbing. With the sandstone walls and cliffs climbing hundreds of meters high, there are a number of places specifically designed for climbers. If you have never done any climbing before, there are heaps of introductory courses you can do in the region too. And of course for the advanced set of climbers, there are some great climbs with breath-taking views.

Explore the Jenolan Caves

The Jenolan Caves offer a variety of climbs some of which are guaranteed spot on for the adventure traveller. In fact, the caves won bronze in the recent NSW Tourism Awards in the Adventure Tourism category. On your guided tour you'll have to squeeze and crawl through the winding passageways. Wearing headlamps, you'll be guided through the caves exploring and abseiling your way through the heart of the mountain.


The walls and valleys of the Blue Mountains provide the perfect backdrop for some heart pounding abseiling. Why not take a tour deep into the mountains to abseil down a waterfall? Once again there are tours and courses for all skill levels. Some courses even offer you an Introductory Abseiling Certificate once you've finished the day. Start off by learning to jump a few metres at a time and then build up to 30-50 metre jumps.


The Blue Mountains has some fabulous places for canyoning. Take one of the many day tours into the mountains and enjoy water slides, jumps and waterfalls into some of the most beautiful fresh water you can experience. There are a range of canyon experiences available in the Blue Mountains so no matter how daring you want to be, there's a tour for you. Enjoy the abundant wildlife from the cool water and experience landscape and scenery at the heart of the mountains.

Horse riding and camping in the mountains

For that true blue adventure experience you can't go past an advanced horse ride through the mountains followed by a few nights of camping. See what it really feels like to live like an Aussie swagman for a night or two.
